The late 90’s and early 2000’s were marked by plenty of fashion statements that (rightfully) fizzled out in the 2010’s. However, the early 2020’s have seen a rampant resurgence of the Y2K style – velour tracksuits, cropped tees, bedazzled mini purses, and low-rise everything.
In the mid-to-late 2010’s, low-rise pants and skirts were swiftly replaced with their high-waisted counterparts. This trend shift was a huge win for those who weren’t thrilled with the stomach-baring look that Y2K-era crop tops and low-rise jeans complemented. The return of high-rise was a chance for women to show less skin while staying on-trend.
In recent years, jeans, skirts, bikini bottoms, and high-rise articles have had a major comeback. But as they say, all good things must come to an end. Low-rise is back in a serious way, a trend revival that has been received with both joy and horror.
